Which Insulin Pens Are Compatible with PenGuard? NovoPen, SoloStar & More
If you're looking to attach an item tracker to your insulin pen using PenGuard, the first thing to check is compatibility.
PenGuard NovoStar is designed around specific Novo Nordisk NovoPen® and Sanofi SoloStar® pen profiles, so it's worth checking your exact pen model before ordering.
What Does "NovoStar" Mean?
NovoStar is the name of our adapter range — not an insulin pen model or manufacturer.
The name reflects the two main pen families the adapter was designed around: NovoPen and SoloStar.
Compatible Insulin Pens
PenGuard NovoStar is designed to fit:
- NovoPen Echo®
- NovoPen Echo Plus®
- NovoPen 5®
- NovoPen 6®
- Sanofi SoloStar® pens, including compatible Lantus SoloStar®, Toujeo SoloStar® and Apidra SoloStar® pens
The adapter has been designed around the body profiles of these pens to provide a secure mounting point for a compatible item tracker.
What Isn't Compatible?
Novo Nordisk FlexPen® is not compatible with PenGuard NovoStar.
FlexPen has a different body design and dimensions and therefore requires a different adapter.
If you use a FlexPen or another insulin pen that isn't listed here, we'd still like to hear from you. Future PenGuard designs can be developed around other pen types where there's enough interest.
Which PenGuard Should You Choose?
Once you've confirmed that your insulin pen is compatible, the next step is choosing the version designed for your preferred tracker.
PenGuard NovoStar Air is designed for Apple AirTag and lets you attach an AirTag to your compatible pen for use with Apple's Find My network.
PenGuard NovoStar Chip is designed for compatible Chipolo trackers. Available phone and finding-network compatibility depends on the particular Chipolo model you choose.
Always check both your pen model and tracker model against the individual PenGuard product page before ordering.

Injection-Moulded ABS Construction
PenGuard adapters are manufactured from injection-moulded ABS plastic, rather than being 3D printed.
ABS is widely used for durable consumer products thanks to its toughness, dimensional stability and suitability for producing consistent moulded components.
Injection moulding also allows the shape and dimensions of each PenGuard to be reproduced consistently — particularly important for an adapter designed around the profile of a specific pen.
Why Does the Fit Matter?
PenGuard is designed to hold a compatible tracker securely on a compatible insulin pen.
Because different insulin pens vary in diameter, shape and construction, a single universal adapter isn't necessarily the best solution. Designing PenGuard around particular pen profiles allows us to create an adapter intended specifically for those models.
That's also why we recommend checking your exact pen model rather than assuming that another pen from the same manufacturer will fit.
